According to presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen of ESPN national coach Ronald Koeman called Clasie prior to the last international match. The national coach was then told that the midfielder ‘couldn’t afford it’. This is not the first time: Clasie already canceled in 2022 due to physical complaints.
Van Gangelen says that Clasie is ‘kept fit for matches’ at AZ. “Then we can stop asking the question every time: where is Clasie?”, answers Kenneth Perez. “Or he can say thank you in advance,” suggests tablemate Karim El Ahmadi, just before the Conference League match between Aston Villa and AZ.
“Well, he isn’t im question”, Perez then responds. He would find it incomprehensible if Clasie were allowed to report to the European Championship selection next year, if he also ‘skipped’ the coming international matches. “It really doesn’t work that way as far as I’m concerned. You can’t skip the entire qualification and then participate in the main tournament for three weeks, can you?” Koeman will announce his pre-selection for the upcoming matches against Ireland and Gibraltar on Friday.
