UITHOORN – Entrepreneur Jordy de Breet lost his father in April to the consequences of the corona virus. After taking that bitter pill, he has now himself been struck down by COVID-19. After a week of difficult breathing, no more smell and taste and a constant feeling that someone is standing on his chest, he is now slowly recovering.

28-year-old Jordy from Uithoorn did not know what happened to him. “I couldn’t get to sleep because I had so much adrenaline in me. It feels like you’re poisoned. I’ve had a fever before but I’ve never felt so sick and miserable.”
That the virus can also make young people seriously ill becomes clear when Jordy talks about how he has felt in the past period. “It was so bad that I wondered if I still wanted to live. I was lethargic, I didn’t feel like it, you have the question: will I get better? When I went to the toilet I had to hold on with both hands. the wall to keep from falling. It just tears me down. “

It all started with an elevation and later a fever. The thermometer remained at 40 degrees for days. “I just didn’t see it go down. That was very scary. I had zero appetite. Still you want to eat because otherwise you weaken further. Everything I ate came out two minutes later.”

The news that Jordy de Breet tested positive for the corona virus hit like a bomb. “Especially among the family. On the one hand you want to be honest and say that you are really bad but you feel the powerlessness of the family. For three nights I thought I would not make it. I then said to myself: I can No more, I give up. Then you feel really small in your bed. “

“My mother was very emotional. She tried her best to keep herself strong but we saw that my father did not turn out well. Even I, 28 years old, did not think I would survive this.” Where and when Jordy became infected remains a mystery. Even with the infection of his father at the start of the pandemic, this never became clear.

Jordy has clear motivation for why he was not hospitalized. “I had no faith in that and was afraid that I would get sicker there. My father had another corona patient in his room and I still wonder if you would make each other even sicker. All I wanted was lying in my bed and especially not getting out of bed to go to the hospital. “

Everyone pretends it is a far-from-my-bed show, but it is not. I share my story because I want to call out that everyone has corona or shares her story so that it becomes more visible how quickly the virus is spreading and what it does to people. “
According to Jordy, the image among many young people remains that only the elderly really get sick. “If no one speaks out about his or her clinical picture, the general image remains that young people with the virus do not lead. But I have never been so sick in my life, so share your story.”
