He himself was not out on the nightlife square De Driesprong in Rosmalen. But that was the place where Jordy Gruijters died on Saturday evening around half past nine, stabbed to death with a carving knife that had been snatched from a dining table. His family is “out of pain and sadness and still in shock”, lawyer Priya Soekhai said on Monday. Here’s what we know about the night of the fatal stabbing.
Saturday evening about half past nine, at the De Eetbar at the Driesprong in Rosmalen. Jordy’s sister and heavily pregnant girlfriend have words with two girls, ages 16 and 17. It is not clear what the dispute is about. But it doesn’t stop at talking.
It was intense, lawyer Priya Soekhai of the Gruijters family will tell a day later. Jordy’s girlfriend is said to have suffered a broken nose. His sister some bruises. The oldest girl they had a fight with is said to be a trained kick boxer. Jordy’s sister would have been bullied by the two for some time.

Somewhere in the tumult Jordy gets a call from his girlfriend. It is unknown where he is at that time. But he rushes to The Eetbar. According to Soekhai, he sees his girlfriend being thrown to the ground there.
And then it escalates completely. The oldest girl, the 17-year-old, allegedly grabbed a carving knife from the table and stabbed Jordy. Straight to the heart, De Telegraaf later wrote.
Can’t be saved
After the stabbing, the seriously injured Jordy stumbles to Grand Café Bottles, located across the square. He enters the shop via the terrace, with a shirt completely bloodied. At the back of the cafe everything is done to save him. Some cafe visitors who work in the Jeroen Bosch Hospital also come to the rescue.
Meanwhile, 112 is called. Two ambulances arrive quickly, and an air ambulance follows. But Jordy is beyond saving and dies in the cafe.
The two girls from Rosmalen and Den Bosch are arrested. The youngest suspect will be released on Sunday evening. According to the police, it has become clear after an investigation that she did not stab.

Jordy Gruijters is commemorated on Sunday evening, at the cafe where his life came to an abrupt end less than 24 hours earlier. About fifty people, friends and family, are there. Among them Jordy’s girlfriend. His mother is also there.
They see how pictures of him are hung against a tree. Candles are lit and flowers are laid. Their lawyer said Monday: “The pain is enormous for them.”
The 17-year-old girl is still in custody.
