Alba has confirmed he will leave after 11 years of strengthening Barcelona who are laden with trophies.
- Alba’s service with Barcelona ends this season
- Alba joined Busquets who also left
- Leaving the payment of wages owed by Barcelona
WHAT HAPPENED? The 34-year-old joined from Valencia in 2012 and has become one of the best left-backs of his generation. Jordi Alba won six LaLiga titles, five Copa del Rey and one Champions League trophy, while in Barcelona uniform. However, having lost his place this season to 19-year-old Alejandro Balde has meant the Spaniard’s time at Camp Nou has come to an end, thus marking a generational change to one of the most famous clubs in the world this summer. Alba confirmed his decision in a video on his social media accounts by reflecting back on his glorious time at the club.
WHAT THEY SAID: Barca have also released an official statement bidding farewell to Alba, which reads: “FC Barcelona and Jordi Alba have reached an agreement to end the player’s contract with the club one year earlier than it was supposed to end at the end of the 2023/24 season. FC Barcelona wants to publicly expresses his gratitude to Alba for his professionalism, commitment and dedication, as well as his always positive and friendly relationship with all members of the Barça family, and wishes him good luck in the future. Barça will always be your home, Jordi.”
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Alba joins midfield ace Sergio Busquets who also left Camp Nou, with the midfielder having confirmed his departure earlier this month. While Busquets’ contract runs out at the end of the season, Alba has a year remaining on his current contract. Relevo journalist Toni Juanmarti reports that the full-back has given up most of his salary to leave this summer, as Barcelona still owe him a debt.

Currently, preparations will be made for Alba and Busquets’ final farewell at Camp Nou, namely the match against Mallorca, Sunday (28/5).
