The Philippines, which avenged its loss in the first round to Al-Nashama (62-87), raised its gold tally to four, with two silver and 12 bronze, while Jordan’s record remained devoid of gold, with four silver and two bronze.

The Jordanian national team previously ranked fourth twice, in the 1986 editions in Seoul and the 2006 editions in Doha, and was seeking to make up for its disappointing appearance in the World Cup last month, when it lost its three matches in the group stage, in addition to two other matches in the classification.

The Philippine national team started the first quarter strongly through its playmaker, Chris Newsome (13 points), and his national team, Justin Brownlee (20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists), who made the difference, forcing a five-point lead (17-12), while most of the Jordanian players, especially Majnasa, resisted success. Rondae Jefferson, who only had three points.

At the beginning of the second quarter, the Philippine national team expanded the lead, thanks to Brownlee, who succeeded in scoring from various distances, bringing the difference to 13 points (28-15), before coach Wissam Al-Sous’ men rose up through Jefferson and Freddy Ibrahim with three straight hat-tricks (28-21). It was followed by a double and a triple by Jefferson again (28-26), so the lead turned into a dispute between the two teams until the first half ended in a tie (31-31).

Jefferson took the initiative to give Jordan the lead (31-33), but the Philippine national team returned and imposed its rhythm forcefully, controlling the course of events and benefiting from Scotty Thompson’s shots and the breakthroughs of Brownlee, who concluded the third quarter by scoring 18 points.

On the other hand, Wissam Al-Sous’s substitutions did not succeed in reducing the difference, as Al-Tawfiq struggled with his giant, Ahmed Al-Duwairi, more than once under the basket, ending the third quarter with the Filipinos (51-41).

The last quarter was not much different, as the Philippine national team continued to control the match amidst a state of loss from the Jordanian players, as the attempts of its player Jefferson, the best scorer in the match with 24 points and 12 rebounds, were in vain, so the match ended with a difference of 10 points (70-60).

The Chinese team, the hosts, won the bronze medal after defeating Chinese Taipei 101-73.
