NNA – The Jordanian Army announced in a statement today that border guard forces killed five drug smugglers and wounded four others who were trying to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom from Syrian territory.
The statement quoted an official military source in the General Command of the Armed Forces as saying: “The Eastern Military Region, in coordination with the military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Administration, thwarted, at dawn on Sunday, within its area of responsibility, an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotic substances coming from Syrian territory.”
He added: “The operation resulted in the killing of five smugglers, the injury of four others, and the seizure of large quantities of drugs,” noting that “the seized items were transferred to the competent authorities.”
The source confirmed that “the armed forces are continuing to use all available capabilities and capabilities to strike with an iron fist anyone who dares to tamper with Jordanian national security,” according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.
