Jordan Summons Iranian Ambassador Over “Interference” – US Air Defenses Help Intercept Drones

On Sunday, Jordan summoned the Iranian ambassador to Amman to protest Iranian statements, which the Jordanian authorities described as “interference in the Kingdom’s internal affairs.”

The Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Al-Safadi, said in statements to Jordanian television that his country summoned the Iranian ambassador to protest the Iranian statements published by Iranian official media in recent days, which carried a warning that Jordan would be the next target if it cooperated with Israel in confronting Iran, according to Reuters.

The Jordanian Council of Ministers said in a statement on Sunday that “the Kingdom intercepted some flying objects that entered its airspace on Saturday evening, in order to ensure the safety of its citizens.”

Two sources had told Reuters that US air defenses helped Jordan shoot down at least 10 drones and missiles that entered the Kingdom’s airspace as they were passing towards Jerusalem.

They added that Iranian drones coming from Iraq were also intercepted, flying over southern Jordan and the city of Aqaba, and were heading to the Israeli port of Eilat.

Jordanian official media reported that the Jordanian King, King Abdullah, informed US President Joe Biden in a phone call on Sunday that any further escalation from Israel would expand the scope of the conflict in the region.
