In golf, as in all sports, you have to be lucky. Yesterday at Spyglass Hill Jordan Spieth had it getting to the leadership in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
GolfConfidencial.- /> Whether it’s good golf or good rebounds, Spieth is feeling his game much better in the la Monterey Peninsula. On Friday he made a low 5, 67 strokes playing in Spyglass Hill to have a one-hit advantage over Daniel Berger heading into the weekend.
“I like the way things are”, Spieth said, referring to more than just his name at the top of the leaderboard at the weekend for the second week in a row.
Without winning from his title the The Open Championship en 2017 in Royal Birkdale, Spieth wasn’t sure if he was taking baby steps or a giant leap. But a week after relying so heavily on his magic with the wedge and putter, this was a consistent way to keep his ball within the tree-lined streets of Spyglass, reducing tension and making a few putts.
There was a putt of thirteen meters for birdie that I holed, on the difficult par 3 of the fifth hole. He also missed a few around ten feet, and his Nico Bogey was a three putt from two meters on the first hole of par 5 of the nine second holes.
“I feel a little better than last week, which was the goal this week, just trying to feel like I’m getting better every day,” said Spieth, whose tie for fourth at Phoenix was his best result since May 2019. “I haven’t made a ton of longer putts … which is probably a very good sign that I’m keeping the ball in front of me and hitting really well. “
Daniel Berger he made a 66 at Pebble Beach by going 2-3-2 on the ocean fringe, on a day full of sun and breeze from the Pacific. I embed four-meter birdie putts on the fifth and seventh holes of par 3, between half an eagle hole from about six meters on the sixth of par 5.
“I didn’t make a lot of birdies in the middle of the round and then I held on and towards the end I made a couple of them and put myself in a good position for Saturday”, Berger said.
Henrik Norlander did a 70 on Spyglass Hill and stood at 10 under par, while the group with 9 under par included Patrick Cantlay, whose record of 62 in Pebble Beach Thursday was quickly forgotten. His tee shot on the 10th Spyglass hit a tree and was never found, sending him back to the tee. He started with a double bogey and eventually recovered those two shots to a three-put bogey on par 3 of the third hole and parried the rest of the way.
The five times champion Phil Mickelson not be for the weekend, but went in style. Mickelson struck twice in the ocean at 18 Pebble Beach and quadruple-bogey at 9 for an 80.
Who will not be from the game on the weekend is Rafa Cabrera-Bello, the canary joined 73 in the first round to a 75 in the second that left him far behind the one under par that marks the cut.
