Jordan Cox celebrates Cristiano Ronaldo as outrageous Kent ace face-off helps team beat Somerset in T20 Blast final

Jordan Cox had an unforgettable night in the T20 Blast final as he was named man of the match in Kent’s victory over Somerset.

The 20-year-old played with the bat and then showed his athleticism and outrageous skills on the pitch as Kent won by 25 points at Edgbaston.

Cox hit an unbeaten 58 on 28 balls to provide vital late runs and take his team to 167 of their 20 overs.

He was then at the center of the drama during the Somerset rounds.

A moment of contention arose when Will Smeed was pardoned after Cox took a hold before colliding with Daniel Bell-Drummond, who was touching the boundary rope.

A six was given, but the decision was rendered moot as Smeed again found himself in Cox, one of three batsmen to fall for the occasional kick from Joe Denly.

The best was yet to come as Cox plunged full length down the rope to repel Lewis Gregory’s shot back to Matt Milnes, who clung to the ball.

The 20-year-old couldn’t contain his glee and performed Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “siuuu” celebration.

Somerset’s innings ended on 145 for nine, with Kent lifting the trophy for the first time in 14 years.

Kent captain Sam Billings said: “He was our best player this year in the T20 Blast. Sometimes he’s played a whole different shot where he just needs to put his head down and then you’ve seen his raw ability that we all see.

“Doing it on a big stage like this is really special, not to mention his lineup as well. He trains a lot and he’s our field player. He works hard in all aspects of his game.

“Moments like this are game-changing, Lewis Gregory is incredibly dangerous and a little magic with the bat and on the pitch has made a difference.”

Cox had made an ignominious start to the day, chopping off his first ball in the 21-point victory over Sussex in the semi-finals, and he revealed he was initially content to avoid a second straight duck.

“It was more of going out of a pair,” he joked. “Once I got one I was happy I could have stopped there if I was honest with you.”
