Jordan Bos moves to Sclessin with Westerlo: “We are not concerned with Standard’s problems”

In the first leg, Standard’s hard core literally set Het Kuipje on fire. There is a very good chance that it will be warm again this evening in Sclessin. The financial figures of the Rouches may turn blood red, but they are not concerned with that at Westerlo. “It will certainly not be an easy match,” warns Jordan Bos.

“We want to win and should not be concerned with Standard’s problems. We play well, but concede avoidable goals every match. That cost us several points this season.” Last summer, the 21-year-old left winger moved from Australian side Melbourne City for his first European adventure. “To be honest: I had never heard of Westerlo. In Australia there is not much attention for the Belgian competition. Our opponent tonight also includes a fellow countryman in the core: Aiden O’Neill. Like me, he is an Australian international. But Aiden is injured, the season is over for him. He has since returned to Australia. We are in regular contact and always travel to Australia together when we have international commitments. The fact that I have already played thirteen times for the Australian national team is something to be proud of.”

At Westerlo he mainly plays as a left back, at the Asian Cup he was one row higher for Australia. “I can play both positions and the national coach knows that. Maybe I have a little more experience as a left back. I cannot be dissatisfied with my first season at Westerlo. I had a difficult start and had to adapt. I also scored three goals, not bad for a defender. Bryan Reynolds and Griffin Yow speak English just like me and I spend a lot of time with them. Fortunately, we have an international group at Westerlo and English is usually the working language.”

Bos lives in Hasselt, a 20-minute drive from Westerlo. “A nice city with something to do besides football.” In the Versuz disco? “Now I bet my joker (laughs).”
