“Joran van der Sloot’s Temporary Extradition to US: Extortion and Fraud Charges”

The Peruvian government has issued an order allowing the temporary extradition of Joran van der Sloot to the United States. Van der Sloot is suspected of extortion and fraud in the US.

The charges stem from the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. The American student went missing in Aruba in 2005. She was last seen leaving a bar with Van der Sloot. Her body was never found and the Dutchman was not prosecuted.

Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru for another case: the murder of 21-year-old Peruvian student Stephany Flores. That murder happened five years after Holloway’s disappearance.

US prosecutors want to prosecute Van der Sloot for accepting $25,000 in cash from Natalee Holloway’s family. He paid that after the Dutchman had asked for $ 250,000 in exchange for information about the location of Holloway’s body. According to prosecutors, Van der Sloot used the money to commit book-entry fraud. He could be sentenced to 25 years in prison for extortion in the United States.

A treaty between Peru and the US allows a suspect to be temporarily extradited to stand trial in the other country. However, the prisoner will be returned after the judicial procedure has ended.

Natalee’s mother, Beth Holloway, issued a statement after the news of the temporary extradition. “We are finally getting justice for Natalee,” she writes.
