Joost Klein has indeed set a Spotify record with his Eurovision Song Contest song European Pope. The song is the most streamed song in the Netherlands in one day. Previously, the streaming platform could not confirm that it was a record.

European Pope was streamed 1.2 million times in one day. “These are just numbers, but I am very grateful,” Joost responds in his Instagram Stories.

The record was held by Eurovision colleague Duncan Laurence. His winning number Arcade was streamed more than a million times the day after the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.

European Pope has been streamed more than 6.5 million times worldwide to date. The song is best listened to in the Netherlands and Germany, a Spotify spokesperson said. This is followed by Belgium, Poland and Austria.

The song is also popular on YouTube: the video clip has already been viewed 6.6 million times at the time of writing.

The Eurovision Song Contest is from May 7 to 11 in Malmö, Sweden. Joost will be in action in the second semi-final.
