Joost Klein through to the Eurovision Song Contest final

As expected, the Dutch Joost Klein has advanced to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Israel has also qualified for the final, despite the fuss about its participation. In addition, countries such as Switzerland, Latvia, Austria and Norway have also passed.

After it was announced that Israeli participant Eden Golan had received enough votes, there was light cheering in the room. For months, there has been a fuss about Israel being allowed to participate due to the war in Gaza. In response to the commotion, organizer Eurovision Broadcasting Union (EBU) repeatedly indicated that the Eurovision Song Contest is a “non-political” event.

The other countries that qualified for the final on Thursday evening are: Greece, Estonia, Georgia and Armenia. After the first semi-final on Tuesday, Croatia, Ukraine, Ireland, Serbia, Portugal, Slovenia, Lithuania, Finland, Cyprus and Luxembourg advanced.

The final is Saturday. Host country Sweden and the so-called Big Five (Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) were already assured of a place in the final.
