Joost Klein, who will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest next year, answered for his song on Tuesday evening Jackass. The song from 2022 has been circulating on social media since Tuesday, because it is said to be pro-Russian. His management denies that.

The song contains the lyrics “I love Russia, I love Russian women”. The song was released a month after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. There is also online criticism of the song that the singer recorded this year with the Russian band Russian Village Boys.

“Joost makes music with like-minded people,” his management said in a statement RTL Boulevard. “He likes to use satire, metaphors, absurdism and hyperbole to express himself. Simply playing with language.”

The song Jackass According to management, it was made “well before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”. “It has absolutely no bearing on what terrible things are still happening there, and is not pro-Russian.”

The Russian Village Boys left their homeland shortly after the start of the war with Ukraine. They regularly speak out on social media and during performances against the Russian invasion of the neighboring country.
