Wim Jonk takes it Tuesday night with his FC Volendam against his old club PSV in the KNVB Cup. The trainer is praised for the well-kept playing of Volendam and is, partly because of this, associated with several Eredivisie-clubs.
“I would be lying if I said that that is not fun”, Jonk begins in conversation The Telegraph about the interest from the Eredivisie. “But that was even when I was still playing football. Then there were always rumors and all kinds of things happened. So you don’t get immediately impressed. What I especially like is that it is apparently visible what we are here at. Volendam with the players and technical staff are doing. “
Jonk indicates that, despite all the rumors, he does not necessarily want to leave Volendam. “There are still plenty of challenges and I still enjoy working here.”
On Tuesday evening, Volendam will take on PSV, Jonk’s old club. “We start from our own strength, but with a realistic view. So not walking forward like a blind man, but make sure that you keep things compact and stay in the game for as long as possible”, says Jonk. “PSV is also still on the road, with Roger Schmidt as the new trainer. They alternate very good phases with lesser moments. (…) So there is still work to be done for PSV.”
