LThe structure had escaped Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic last February: not a single contamination among the staff and disabled workers, but unfortunately it was caught up in turn by the second wave. After the confirmation, Thursday, of a positive case which concerned a symptomatic resident, the Establishment of service and help through work (Esat) of Jonchery-sur-Vesle closed its doors Friday noon, and for a week at less: a systematic screening organized the same morning revealed 34 other contaminations, out of a total of 100 people. “The provisional reopening date is set for Monday 25 January, unless the situation changes”, indicates Serge Béliard, director of Esat la Joncquière.
The origin of the contamination unknown
Almost all of the 35 cases concern people with disabilities (only “Four or five employees” are positive). As per protocol, all patients were placed in isolation with their families, except for two residents who had to stay at Esat, but “In a separate building where a place has been set up to accommodate them”, specifies the director. “Everything is set with the Regional Health Agency. We are in telephone contact with the families to make sure everything is going well. “
Screening of “patient zero” was performed as soon as symptoms appeared. “This is the protocol, we applied it: if there is any doubt, we test. “ Esat does not know how the virus could have arrived within it (intra-family contamination? During an external site?). “Disabled people are people who scrupulously apply barrier gestures”, emphasizes Serge Béliard. “If everyone could respect them like them… They are very attentive, very respectful of instructions, even if unfortunately that is not enough to protect themselves completely, as we have seen this week. “
