Wow! Jonathan “Jo” Matsumoto will wear the jersey of the Krefeld Penguins in the coming DEL2 season and occupy the still open center position. Even though the German-Canadian, who has had German citizenship since September, turns 37 in October, he is considered a valuable addition to the newly formed team. He was most recently under contract with the Kölner Haie and scored 38 points (eleven goals, 27 assists) in 60 games last season. The left-handed shooter played a total of 490 DEL games for Schwenningen, Munich, Augsburg, Iserlohn and Cologne. There are also 517 appearances in the North American AHL and 14 games in the NHL for the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers. The striker, who hails from the Canadian capital of Ottawa, was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in 79th overall position.
