Hong Kong Open 2023 entered the quarter-finals on Friday (15/9). The match was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Kowloon.
Indonesian men’s singles, Jonatan Christie faces Taiwan’s representative, Lee Chia-hao. Jojo won the first game with a narrow score of 21-19, won the second game also with a narrow score of 21-18.
The course of the match
At the beginning of the first gym, Jonathan Christie face stiff resistance. The points were tied at 3-3, but Jojo was able to lead 8-4.
Jojo’s challenge was successful when his observation saw the ball coming out, he kept the distance 9-7. Unfortunately for Jojo, two shots that were wide open when the ball hit his own net, but he was still ahead 11-10 in the interval.
Lee equalized again at 14-14. Lee was ahead 16-15, but Jonathan Christie immediately came back 18-16.
Jojo achieved game point 20-19. Ultimately, the 26 year old player won 21-19.
At the start of the second game, another tough match was presented. Jonathan Christie still able to lead narrowly 5-4.
Jojo’s hard smash made him maintain a 7-6 lead. Lee Chia-hao started to look overwhelmed following Jojo’s playing pattern which ended up making his own mistakes, giving Jojo an 11-6 lead at the interval.
Lee wins a quick punch battle to get close. Lee turned in a 14-13 lead with his cross body shot.
Jojo sticks, Lee moves away again carefully returning a hard punch and again his cross results in points, 16-14 for him.
Jojo got up again, pushed the ball back a little and it rolled smoothly. He overtook 18-17.
20-17 Match point for Jojo after his shot goes in. Jojo won the second game after Lee hit his own shot into the net, 21-18.
