Jonas Van Geel, Nathalie Meskens, Ruth Beeckmans and Guga Baú …

A few years ago they performed together on the set of Are er nog kroketten, now Jonas Van Geel and Ruth Beeckmans are venturing into a new annual overview with RIP 2020.

Empty theaters, they have unfortunately become the symbol of 2020. But from next week, the stage of the municipal theater in Mechelen will be used again. Jonas Van Geel, Nathalie Meskens, Ruth Beeckmans and Guga Baúl gather there for the annual review on VTM. That will be given the appropriate title this year RIP 2020 along.

All four of them have experience with annual overviews on VTM. A few years ago, Van Geel (35) presented three seasons of the panel show Are there still croquettes. Meskens (38), Beeckmans (38) and Baúl (34) were his guests several times. “We understand each other so well that sometimes the jokes just flow out by themselves,” Meskens says.

Now they gather on the shelves of the Mechelen city theater to say goodbye to 2020 with a smile, seven episodes long. The foursome goes through the big and small news from the past year: the headlines from the books and newspapers, remarkable events on the Internet, striking photos or TV clips. They come up with characters for those stories, sing new versions of the greatest hits and provide striking images with new voices.

Reunion ‘Up against the stars’

At times it will also seem like a reunion of Up against the stars because the actors dare to imitate the most talked about private companies. The latter is just right for Guga Baúl. “I look forward to being able to bring out a wide arsenal of voices in RIP 2020, because there are a lot of movies that beg to be dubbed.”

It seems obvious that quite a few jokes will be made about corona. Although Jonas Van Geel promises enough variety. “We sometimes forget that a lot of other funny events happened this year as well.”

The recordings take place in an empty theater room.

‘RIP 2020’, from Wednesday 25 November at 20.40 on VTM
