Jonas Gahr Støre today holds his first half-yearly press conference as Prime Minister – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

This article is over a month old and may contain outdated advice from the authorities regarding coronary heart disease.

Stay up to date in NRK’s overview, or through FHIs nettsider.

During the press conference, he will summarize his first months in government, which have largely been marked by the corona.

Otherwise, Støre has had to deal with a majority government that never came to fruition, a parliamentary president who had to leave and electricity bills people can not afford to pay.

– From day one, these two months have been about implementing policy from the Hurdal platform to create a fairer Norway, Støre opened the press conference with.

– I get with me the opinion polls that are coming, but believe me, what concerns me and the government now is to solve the tasks that the government must solve here and now.

– A completely new scheme

Furthermore, the Prime Minister spoke about the corona pandemic, the omicron and the power crisis.

– It says something about the pandemic being global, that it is only about three weeks since the omicron was discovered in South Africa. It was, as the health director has said, one game changer. The goal is to control the infection and slow down the spread through the winter.

In addition to the corona, the electricity crisis has been challenging for the Støre government. The Prime Minister emphasized that there was no solution to the crisis “lying in a drawer”.

– We have worked with a completely new scheme that could come to the aid of ordinary households. It had to be made from scratch, because they did not exist before.

He points out that several of the measures have also had to be targeted at those who do not usually struggle, in addition to measures that affect those who have the least.

Regrets Solberg criticism

On Wednesday morning, the Prime Minister spoke about the corona pandemic, compensation schemes and previous criticism of the Solberg government to NRK.

Last year, Støre Solberg criticized the government for what he believed was a lack of crisis packages for companies affected by corona measures.

Støre then also stated that there would have been less infection in Norway if he himself had been at the helm.

Now there is more infection in Norway than ever.

Asked if he regretted the statement, the prime minister replied that he had later adjusted the wording.

– Is it political language for “I should not say this”?

– Yes, as it came out, it went wrong.

– We have followed the advice we have received

Yesterday, NRK wrote that among the patients who are admitted to the intensive care units in Eastern Norway, are 56 percent not vaccinated against corona.

The government has always promoted vaccination as our main weapon against the pandemic, but still 8 percent of the population is unvaccinated.

At the same time, this group makes up more than half of the sickest corona patients.

Earlier this year, Assistant Director of Health Espen Nakstad stated that there was a great risk of new mutations in the coronavirus, as long as large parts of the world’s population are unvaccinated.

Jonas Gahr Støre was clear that the government has introduced proportionate measures all the way and that they acted as best they could.

– I do not want to comment on the message we received in August and September that the corona pandemic was over. But omikron came to Norway before many other countries. We have followed the professional advice we have received all the way, Støre said.
