Norway is not among the countries considering sending soldiers into Ukraine. This is stated by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) ahead of a meeting with top European leaders in Paris on Monday evening.

French President Emmanuel Macron has invited top leaders from 20 European countries to the emergency meeting. The conference came about after concerns that Russia is gaining the upper hand in the wars in Ukraine.
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico said before the meeting that several member states of NATO and the EU are considering sending military personnel to Ukraine through their own bilateral agreements. He indicated that this would be the topic of the meeting in Paris.
“I will limit myself to saying that these talks indicate that several NATO and EU member states are considering sending their forces to Ukraine on a bilateral basis,” Fico said after a meeting of Slovakia’s National Security Council, as quoted by Reuters.
– This is a meeting with an open agenda. The topic is the situation in Ukraine, and a desire for better cooperation to meet their needs. Many entrances have been opened. But what is mentioned here is not a current approach for us, says Støre to VG.
Do more and better
– We want to send a clear message to Putin, that he will not win in Ukraine. The aim is to crush the idea that he will somehow win, said a spokesperson for Macron ahead of the meeting.
On the phone from Paris, Støre tells VG that there are ongoing talks at head of state level between European countries that support Ukraine:
– There will be a discussion about how we can strengthen our efforts, what we can do more and better, he says.
