Jonas and Simão Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Estádio da Luz with Benfica

Brazilian forward spoke with Simão Sabrosa, regarding the twentieth anniversary of Estádio da Luz

Simão and Jonas met again, in a good-humored atmosphere, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Estádio da Luz. Benfica shared a video in which the two players, both chosen to be part of the Mural of Champions, come together on a trip to towards the Cathedral. Simão joked with Jonas, saying that he has more gray hair, and that each strand of white hair corresponds to a goal scored.

Both confess that after the age of 30 you need to be more careful with your body, from the way you train to your diet, highlighting that it is extremely important to rest, and that the psychological factor is as important as the physical. «If you don’t get a good night’s sleep, things won’t go well!», sums up Jonas.

Simão and Jonas also commented on the good part of finishing their careers: spending more quality time with their children. Says Simão: «My youngest son is 9 years old, he was born a month after I stopped (2014), he never saw me play. Sometimes he goes to YouTube [vê-lo]». The former Portuguese international reveals that his son “is passionate about Benfica, he goes to all the games”, and that he is sorry he didn’t get to see him play.

My god, I thought drumming was easy, but it takes a lot of coordination! But it’s nice, also to disconnect a little. Music relaxes us!

Asked to comment on what he misses most about Lisbon, Jonas doesn’t hesitate: «Everything». The Brazilian striker says that his years at Benfica “were spectacular”, and that “on a day-to-day basis, the group had a lot of friendship”, highlighting that “that’s why it also worked out, to achieve many things”. Jonas confesses that he «really misses the meetings, playing cards, PlayStation», and leaves a curiosity about the environment in the Reds: «In many clubs you know that you will have to concentrate, you go on trips and you always have to be very concentrated and Not here, here it was pleasant, because we all got along very well. And the food, the city, the country, the climate… I really miss everything,” he concludes.

The Brazilian star found a new vocation outside the four lines, drums and percussion. «My God, I thought drumming was easy, but it takes a lot of coordination!» he confesses excitedly, before noting that «it’s nice, also to disconnect a little», giving the motto: «Music relaxes us!».

Almost arriving at the Cathedral, and still on the subject, Jonas reveals that those who used to choose the music in the locker room “were the youngest”. Upon arrival, they cross the corridor towards the field, with the two veterans refusing to enter the locker room, as “it is sacred, only players go in there”. “Would you like to answer journalists’ questions?” asks Simão, as they pass the press room. Jonas makes an ugly face: “I’d rather play football!” he confesses, excitedly, before they reach the pitch, and remember times that will never come back.
