Jonah Hill has announced that he will not attend press conferences for any of his films in the future in an effort to protect his mental health. The actor, who has spoken publicly about “body shaming” in the past – and has shown his physical transformation – opened up about the experience of living with anxiety and explained in a letter his decision to move away from promotion of open films published by Deadline.
Hill just directed his second feature, a mental health documentary called Stutzand in the letter he explains how making the film helped him to realize his mood.
“The whole purpose of making this film is to provide the therapy and tools I have learned in therapy to a large audience for private use through a fun film,” he wrote. “Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to understand that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks.which are exacerbated by media appearances and public events “.
He went on to say that although he is grateful for the opportunity to introduce Stutz to a “prestigious film festival” later this year, he will not be participating in the promotional tour, as this type of activity is a trigger of anxiety.
“If I got sicker more going to promote it, I wouldn’t be loyal to myself or the film,” he said, adding, “I understand that I’m one of the privileged few who can afford to take a break. I won’t lose my job while working on the my anxiety … AndI hope it is more normal for people to talk and act about these things. So they can take steps to feel better and for the people in your life to understand your problems better.
