The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) is following up on President Jokowi’s direction which prohibits government officials from holding iftar together (book). The Ministry of Home Affairs is preparing circulars for regional heads.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently preparing a Circular Letter. The letter is addressed to Governors, Regents and Mayors throughout Indonesia,” said Head of the Kemendagri Information Center Benni Irwan when contacted, Thursday (23/3/2023).

Benni said that he had not been able to convey the contents of the circular ban book the. However, he continued, the contents of the circular letter were derived from the letter of the Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38/Seskab/DKK/03/2023 regarding directions related to holding iftar together.

He said the circular letter had not yet been sent to the local government. Even so, he stated, his party would soon send the circular letter as soon as possible.

“When it’s finished and signed, it will be sent to the regions. The sooner the better,” he said.

As is known, President Jokowi gave related directions book officials and government officials during Ramadan 1444 H. Jokowi requested that breaking the fast with officials and government officials be cancelled.

One of the reasons, is currently still in transition from pandemic to endemic. This directive was contained in the letter of the Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38/Seskab/DKK/03/2023 regarding directions related to holding iftar together. The letter was signed by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung on 21 March 2023.

The directives were addressed to the ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, the Attorney General, the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, the National Police Chief and heads of agencies/institutions.

There are three points in Jokowi’s directive letter. Here are the points:

1. The handling of COVID-19 is currently in transition from pandemic to endemic, so caution is still needed.

2. In connection with that, the implementation of breaking the fast together in the holy month of Ramadan 1444 Hijri to be abolished.

3. Minister of Home Affairs to follow up on the directives mentioned above to governors, regents and mayors.
