Jokowi Walks With Ulamas Towards National Remembrance at the Palace

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the national remembrance in the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta. Jokowi walked with clerics and interfaith leaders to the location of the event.

Detikcom’s monitoring at the Presidential Palace, Monday (1/8/2022), Jokowi and his entourage of scholars and interfaith leaders walked from the direction of the State Palace to the location of the national remembrance event. They also seemed to be talking while walking to the Merdeka Palace courtyard.

Jokowi was also seen holding the hands of ulama and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin as he descended the stairs to the location of the event. Then they sat on the stage that had been provided. They faced the students who had been present earlier.

Present at this activity were a number of Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, including Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. Also present were the Chairman of the PBNU Yahya Cholil Staquf and the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque Nasaruddin Umar.

The event then started by singing the anthem Indonesia Raya. After that, the event continued with the reading of the holy Qur’an.

To note, this national remembrance is a series of activities to commemorate the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia or the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. A number of interfaith leaders attended the event.

“Then tonight there will be a national remembrance at the Merdeka Palace followed by cross-religious leaders at the Merdeka Palace,” said Secretary of the Ministry of State Secretariat Setya Utama during a press conference this afternoon.
