Jokowi Voters Begin to Fall in Love with Prabowo

The Indonesia Survey Center revealed that 22.7 percent of the 1,520 respondents said they would choose the Minister of Defense (Menhan). Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election. Of that 22.7 percent, 10.9 percent are voters of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the 2019 presidential election.

A senior researcher from the Indonesia Survey Center, Chairul Ansari, assessed that this condition could not be separated from Prabowo’s decision to accept Jokowi’s offer to become defense minister.

“What is quite surprising in this survey is that Jokowi 2019 voters have begun to fall in love with Prabowo, who was a political rival in the 2014 and 2019 elections,” Chairul said at a press conference, Sunday (14/11).

Chairul said Prabowo’s attitude was considered to put aside political rivalry and dilute political polarization in 2014 and 2019. The general chairman of the Gerindra Party finally received appreciation from Jokowi’s supporters.

“Prabowo’s democratic attitude deserves the support of Jokowi’s supporters,” he said.

In the Indonesia Survey Center survey, Prabowo ranks first as the most voted person for presidential candidates in 2024.

The following positions are occupied by Ganjar Pranowo in a row with 12.6 percent; Anies Baswedan 12.2 percent; Sandiaga Uno 5.7 percent; AHY 4.5 percent; Ridwan Kamil 4.3 percent.

Furthermore, occupied by Puan Maharani 3.6 percent; Airlangga Hartarto 2.9 percent; Tri Rismaharini 2.7 percent; Khofifah Indar Parawansa 2.1 percent; Mahfud MD 1.1 percent; Erick Thohir 0.7 percent.

Then Gatot Nurmantyo 0.4 percent; Tito Karnavian 0.4 percent; Basuki Thajaja Purnama 0.3 percent; Moeldoko 0.2 percent; and Muhaimin Iskandar 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, 23.4 percent of the public still cannot make their choice.

This survey was conducted in a time span of 7-21 October 2021. The total sample was 1,520 respondents with a margin of error of 2.5 percent. The sampling technique used multistage random sampling method with direct interview data collection.
