Jokowi Undecided on Presidential Candidate Following People’s Consultation

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has not yet decided on the name of the presidential candidate (candidate) as a result of the People’s Consultation (Musra) of Jokowi’s volunteers even though the names of the candidates have been proposed by the Musra Committee. It is believed that Jokowi will declare support for the presidential candidate depending on his opponent.

This was revealed by the Executive Director of Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI) Adi Prayitno. He considered that currently Jokowi is seeing very well the dynamics and political configuration of the country which is still moving dynamically.

“But if you’re honest, Jokowi is actually a PDIP cadre, so personally his political preference is definitely Ganjar Pranowo. It’s impossible for Jokowi not to support Ganjar Pranowo, that’s the most important thing,” Adi told reporters, Sunday (14/5/2023) .

Adi said that at the same time Jokowi also wanted to show his face as a president and a statesman who protects the many people around him who also want to advance in the 2024 presidential election. Among them are the general chairman of the Gerindra party, Prabowo Subianto and the chairman of the Golkar party, Airlangga Hartarto, who are also very likely to get a presidential ticket. .

“This means that at the end of the day the one who can advance is All Jokowi Man, I think these volunteers will be distributed to a number of names to support Ganjar, then support Prabowo and maybe also support Airlangga Hartarto. Because Jokowi certainly won’t bother if the forward are All Jokowi Man, Pak Airlangga Hartarto, Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar,” he said.

“Because Jokowi wants to show his political stance as a president and a statesman that the people around him are also people who deserve to be carried and supported. Although personally Jokowi is of course more to Ganjar Pranowo,” he added.

However, it is assumed that those competing in the 2024 Presidential Election will be Jokowi’s people. According to him, it would be a different story if Jokowi’s side competed in the 2024 presidential election against the axis of change which carries Anies Baswedan.

“But it will be a different story if the axis of change can advance Anies Baswedan, it is very likely that Jokowi will consolidate a grand coalition in which the PDIP, Gerindra, Golkar, PAN, PKB, and PPP are made into one political force, 6 supporting parties are currently outside NasDem. It is very possible that it will be consolidated into one axis of political power itself against the camp of change, against Anies Baswedan,” he said.
