Jokowi Tweets to Stop War Without ‘Russia’, PD Legislator Wants Bad Image

Jakarta

Member of Commission I DPR RI Faction Democratic party (PD) Riski Natakusumah responds to the tweet Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who expressed an attitude asking for the war to be stopped. However, in that tweet Jokowi not mention the word ‘Russia’.

Rizki Natakusumah was surprised because the government Indonesia the so-called peace-loving did not even issue a firm statement. He warned that the tweet would have a bad impact on Indonesia’s image in the eyes of the world.

“When the whole world, even the Russians themselves, condemned the invasion of Ukraine, it is very surprising that the Indonesian government, which is said to love peace, has not issued a statement statement firm,” said Rizki Natakusumah to reporters, Sunday (27/2/2022).

“We consider that this will have a negative impact on the image of Indonesia, which is known as the ‘keeper of world peace’ that has been shown so far. It will be difficult to maintain the country’s prestige in the eyes of the international community if we do not show a straightforward attitude,” he continued.

The PD politician alluded to Indonesia’s position as a G-20 presidency. He appealed to Jokowi not to miss this momentum to respond to global dynamics.

“In fact, Indonesia now has a golden momentum as president of the G-20 which the world is definitely waiting for. Don’t let this precious moment be missed because the president does not answer global dynamics,” he said.

In addition, he asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) to give precise consideration to the president regarding this matter. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should provide accurate input to the palace so that Indonesia’s role in multilateral forums can be optimal,” he continued.

Furthermore, he urged the president to be responsive to the current world situation and to be able to show that Indonesia is not a cowardly country when it comes to Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine.

“We urge the president to be responsive to the world situation. Show if Indonesia is a civilized nation that is not cowardly in the face of the tyranny of Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine,” he said.

Jokowi teases about the war

Previously, something was missing from the teasing of President Joko Widodo and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia when dealing with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. ‘Russia’ is not mentioned at all. Why?

Jokowi conveyed his attitude regarding the latest conditions in the world through a Twitter tweet on Thursday (24/2/2022), namely on the first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Jokowi asked to stop the war but did not say to whom the tweet was directed.

“Stop the war. The war is hurting humanity and endangering the world,” said Jokowi.

On the same day, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs account also conveyed the Indonesian government’s position via the official Twitter account. That attitude alludes to ‘military attacks in Ukraine’ but does not mention ‘Russia’.

“Respect for the *objectives and principles* of the UN charter and international law, including respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, it is important to continue. Therefore, a military attack in Ukraine is unacceptable. The attack also seriously endangers the safety of the people and threatens peace *and* stability in the region *and* the world,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
