Jokowi today announces the halt of exports of new raw materials

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced that some raw materials would be blocked for export. This information will be officially announced today.

“And today we will add more, if yesterday it was nickel, today we will announce again a commodity that we have from here. I will announce it again, to stop this! Because we can no longer allow the export of raw materials. Next year or 1 or 2 to stop again,” he said on Wednesday (12/21/2022) in the Outlook Economic 2023 event at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Ballroom, Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Jokowi stressed that he will continue to gradually reduce exports of raw materials. He was furious, seeing how huge losses RI could make by exporting raw materials.

“What a leap in added value that has hurt us for decades. We get no taxes, we get no dividends, we get no royalties, we get no exports. No job creation had. I have nothing! This has to stop,” Jokowi said.

Jokowi he also said he was ready if his steps would lead to lawsuits, such as the condition where he halted nickel exports and was sued by the World Trade Organization (WTO).

“If we continue, it will be a great loss for us, even if we get sued that’s okay. This is the nickel that is being sued, this is what we will announce that we will be sued again. That’s okay. Order for us keep it up,” he said.

He stressed that the government’s job is to seek maximum added value. According to him, the results have also been seen from the economic growth in the North Moluccas due to the downstream activities, the growth has reached 27%.

“Try to check which province in the world has 27% growth. Let me see there isn’t any. In Sulawesi in general it is 8.24%. growthher Year after year (yoy). If all provinces carry out downstream industrialization, this is structural reform real what do we want to do,” he concluded.
