Jokowi Test EHang 216 Flying Taxi: Price, Specs, and Flight Tests in Indonesia

Jakarta

Jokowi had the opportunity to try out the EHang 216 flying taxi cabin. Do you know how much the EHang 216 flying taxi that Jokowi tested costs?

President Joko Widodo had the opportunity to sit in the EHang 216 flying taxi on the sidelines of Hub SPACE 2023. In fact, this is not the first time flying taxis have shown off. Previously tested by Jokowi, EHang had been exhibited several times. There has even been time to air without a crew.

Flying taxis are a very special means of transportation. The vehicle with the concept of an autonomous drone aircraft was brought by Prestige Aviation. The EHang 216 can carry loads of up to 220 kg, and can travel speeds of 130 km per hour. This vehicle does not need a pilot because it is controlled from a control center on land via a 4G or 5G network.

According to the specifications, the EHang 216 has 16 propellers. This vehicle can also take off and land vertically, then its arms can be folded so that it only requires a parking space of 5 meters. The dimensions of this vehicle are 1.7 meters high and 5.6 meters wide.

Having the ability to fly, it’s no surprise that the EHang 216 has a pretty fantastic price. Chairman of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo in 2021 once revealed that the EHang is priced at IDR 8 billion. Bamsoet is known to be one of the buyers of the EHang 216. He ordered 10 units of the 4-seat version of the EHang with a capacity of 400 kilograms.

“Yes, IDR 8 billion,” said Bamsoet at that time.

With that price, it has many fans. Prestige Aviation Executive Chairman Rudy Salim said last year that 100 EHang units had been ordered for the next two years, meaning until 2024.

Flying taxis have been tested several times in the air in Indonesia. In 2021, EHang 216 had a demonstration flight in Bali. The control demonstration at the command and coordination center went smoothly, EHang 216 successfully aired at a height of 300 meters around the island of Bali.

Continuing in 2022, EHang will return to the air at the JIEXpo Kemayoran asphalt field. At that time, EHang only flew vertically at a height of more than 100 meters.

The plan is that EHang will carry out flight tests again. Rudy even invited Jokowi directly to experience the sensation of being in the air with the EHang 216 flying taxi.

“I invited him to try a demo flight and he (Jokowi) seemed enthusiastic,” explained Rudy.
