President Jokowi admitted he was braking investment foreigners in the development of the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

Jokowi wants to prioritize domestic investors to participate in development at IKN. He believes that many national entrepreneurs are interested in building in the new capital.

“We did brake first. I told the Head of the Authority, brake for those from outside, give them a chance, if possible, also join forces with (entrepreneurs) from within (the country),” said Jokowi at IKN, Wednesday (1/11).

Jokowi said there were 130 Singaporean investors who showed interest in investing in IKN. Then there were 30 investors from Japan and 30 people from Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates who also showed similar interest.

Even so, Jokowi continues to close the door to foreign investment. He doesn’t want domestic entrepreneurs to not get the opportunity to participate in IKN.

“If it gets stuck and there are no (domestic investors), we will use measures from outside,” he said.

The government notes that investment in IKN, which has begun work, is worth more than IDR 30 trillion. Projects worth IDR 23 trillion had their groundbreaking in September 2023 and another IDR 12 trillion was groundbreaking this week.

“If these two are completed, the toll road is completed, the airport is completed, I am sure that those who are late in starting their investment in the capital of the archipelago, ladies and gentlemen will be left behind,” said Jokowi.
