Flood in Sintang, West Kalimantan, has become a popular topic discussed by the public recently. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed that the cause of the flood was environmental damage to the rain.
This was conveyed by Jokowi after inaugurating the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road Section 1 Serang-Rangkasbitung Section, Lebak Regency, which was broadcast on the Setpres YouTube channel, Tuesday (16/11/2021). Jokowi said the damage in the rain catchment area had been going on for a long time.
“Yes, it is because of the damage to the catchment area, a rain catchment area that has been around for decades,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi also ensured to repair the environmental damage in the rain catchment area. Starting next year, he said, the construction of the nursery or nursery will be done. The nursery was built so that the rain catchment functioned normally again.
“Yes, that’s what we have to stop, because the main problem is there. Kapuas is overflowing because the rain catchment area is damaged. That’s what we’ll fix later. upstream areas, in rain catchment areas, in catchment areas. We will repair them because the damage is there, “said Jokowi.
Extreme Rain
In addition, according to Jokowi, flooding in Sintang Regency and its surroundings occurred due to more extreme rain than usual.
“And secondly, there was rain that was more extreme than usual,” he said.
