Jokowi Reminds Outdoor Masks Are Must, What’s the Fate of Easing?

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminding all people about the need to wear masks indoors and outdoors because the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Then, does this mean policy mask loosening pulled?

Jokowi’s statement regarding the necessity of wearing masks inside and outside the room was delivered after performing the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, Sunday (10/7/2022). Jokowi said the use of masks is still a must.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, highlighted the recent increase in the number of active COVID cases. Wiku appealed to the public to use masks, both indoors and outdoors, to provide maximum protection when active COVID cases increase.

Jokowi relaxes the use of masks outdoors

Previously, President Jokowi announced a policy regarding the easing of the use of masks. This was conveyed by Jokowi in a video on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube account, Tuesday (17/5). This policy of easing masks takes into account the increasingly sloping condition of COVID-19.

“First, the government decided to relax the policy on wearing masks. If people are doing outdoor activities or in open areas that are not crowded with people, they are allowed not to use masks,” said Jokowi.

While people who are in closed rooms must still wear masks. In addition, the elderly and people with comorbidities are still advised to wear masks.

“However, activities in closed rooms and public transportation must still use masks. For people who are categorized as vulnerable, elderly, or have comorbid diseases, I still recommend using masks when doing activities. Likewise for people who experience symptoms of coughs and colds, then still have to wear a mask when doing activities,” added Jokowi.
