Jokowi Receives Covid-19 Vaccines That Have Not Passed Clinical Trials, This Said Sri Mulyani

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of Finance (Menkeu), Sri Mulyani Indrawati, ensuring procurement and implementation the Covid-19 vaccine will be carried out safely and effectively as directed President Joko Widodo.

“If it is safe, the vaccine must have followed the steps clinical trials correct. This is important to give confidence to the community, ”said Sri Mulyani Among, Wednesday (28/10/2020).

Sri Mulyani said that safe procurement of vaccines means that all scientific aspects will still be met according to standards that have been implemented or adopted internationally.

Therefore, the procurement of vaccines and vaccinations is very dependent on the progress of clinical trials and safety standards that have been set internationally by WHO and Indonesia and the Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI).

“So Indonesia does not use a different standard. We use the same international standards, “he said.

According to him, the use of international standards is applied in order to give confidence that the government does not accelerate or do it alone related to the mechanism and standards for vaccine procurement.

“So the caution with WHO and ITAGI standards is that Indonesia can continue to carry out the vaccination process, including purchasing vaccines, which are brand has appeared, “explained Sri Mulyani.

On the other hand, while waiting for the availability of the vaccine, which takes a long time to meet the needs of 267 million Indonesians, the government has drawn up a detailed plan.

He said the simulation was intended so that the government could see the implementation of the vaccinations that would be carried out when the vaccines became available.

“Because the vaccine must be maintained at the appropriate temperature treatment namely below zero degrees Celsius, “said Sri Mulyani.

He continued, currently the Ministry of Health is evaluating the capacity of health facilities, namely providing cold storage or a cooler so that the vaccine is not spoiled according to WHO standards.

“According to the Ministry of Health, 90 percent of health facilities have met WHO standards in terms of cold storage. That means we have to add more so that we can cover all safe vaccination kits, ”he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo ( Jokowi) reveals the reasons why the government is moving fast in procurement coronavirus vaccine or the Covid-19 vaccine.

Apart from developing its own vaccines, the government has finalized the purchase of vaccines for Covid-19 from three vaccine producing companies, namely Cansino, G42 / Sinopharm, and Sinovac. In fact, the vaccines from the three companies have not passed phase 3 clinical trials.

“Why does speed need to be done, because indeed all countries are competing to get this vaccine as quickly as possible. And we know this is all chasing,” said Jokowi during a limited meeting of ‘Vaccination Procurement and Implementation Plan’ at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (26/10/2020).

“Everyone is pursuing a vaccine so that their citizens can quickly recover and their economy can revive,” he said again.

Even so, Jokowi emphasized that the vaccine will only be injected into the public after going through the correct clinical trial stage. That way, the vaccine is confirmed to be effective against the Covid-19 virus and is safe and does not cause side effects.

“Do not let us rush to vaccinate so that scientific principles, scientific data, health standards are secondary. We cannot,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi also asked his staff to involve religious mass organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council, Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah in the socialization of the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination. He assessed that the role of religious organizations is very important in being able to explain the benefits of this vaccination to the public.
