Jokowi Raises the Status of Volunteers by Appointing Budi Arie Setiadi as Minister

Jakarta

Director of Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI) Adi Prayitno assessed the appointment Budi Arie Setiadi So the Menkominfo is the first time in history that a volunteer has become a minister. He analyzed from this, Jokowi want to show that the position of a volunteer is now at the level of general chairman of a political party.

“This is the first time in history in Indonesia that volunteers have become ministers, usually volunteers are at best commissioners or deputy ministers, commissioners at most, yes commissioners who are not developing. But in this way Pak Jokowi actually wants to show one thing to the public that his volunteers want to go up in class and want to be on an equal footing with the ketum ketum party who are also ministers,” said Adi in a discussion on Perspective x Total Politics themed ‘Adu Strong Ganjar, Anies, Prabowo, where is Jokowi?’, Thursday (20/7/2023).

Adi assessed that Jokowi’s volunteers had not been considered by political party elites. According to him, Jokowi showed different things. Adi said Jokowi wanted to prove that volunteers can also do something for this country.

“All this time, Jokowi’s volunteers have not been considered by party elites. Who is this, who is this person talking about elections, making orchestrations, then consolidating in many places is not considered important by the elites,” he said.

“But the story is different, when Budi Arie became a minister, he was already on par with the party chairman, when talking about politics, talking about preferences for the 2024 election, he was already at the party general level, that’s what I said, Mr. Jokowi wants to raise the level of his volunteers, who have so far been underestimated by the party, that volunteers can do anything for this country,” continued Adi.

Adi assessed that Jokowi was also comfortable with volunteers. According to him, Jokowi always spoke freely when giving speeches in front of volunteers rather than inside parties.

“Jokowi is the most comfortable talking in political parties, ojo kesusu, white hair. If he is not in his party, in his party Pak Jokowi is not only calm but also flat and wants to finish quickly, but if in front of volunteers he is two hours passionate, it means Pak Jokowi wants to show that these volunteers should not be underestimated,” he said.

In the same vein, Senior Politician Zulfan Lindan also assessed that the presence of volunteers is necessary for the party. He considered that the party structure could not fully work without volunteers.

“In my experience, during my time as a legislative candidate, for example, the party structure cannot fully work without the support of volunteers, both for the presidential election and for the legislative election. This must be admitted, the existence of volunteers is not structured like a party, but they are there and work,” he said.

“And sometimes they are able to create a stage for legislative candidates to convey their thoughts and support to the presidential candidate. So the role of these volunteers remains important in this political battle in Indonesia,” continued Zulfan.

According to him, Jokowi’s most visible volunteer is Projo so it is only natural that his chairman Budi Arie Setiadi is appointed as minister. He then revealed Budi Arie’s closeness to Jokowi.

“Maybe it’s a coincidence that volunteers are considered very representative, projo, so it’s very natural that the projo chairman becomes a minister. Informally, from the start, why is the projo chairman higher than the party chairman? because he most often meets Pak Jokowi whenever he doesn’t need to ask for time. The Projo chairman calls Pak Jokowi to come, twice a week three times Pak Jokowi can come to his house, where can the party chairman do that,” said Zulfan.
