Jokowi promises to spend IDR 5 trillion on electric vehicle incentives, electric car – motorcycle allocation?

TIME.CO, Jakarta -The government has prepared an incentive of IDR 5 trillion which will be given to the public for purchases electric vehicle from cars, motorbikes, to buses. This was done on the basis that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has seen similar policies implemented by all countries of the world, especially Europe.

“This policy is made with calculations and studies. We also learn from other countries,” President Jokowi said on Thursday, December 22, 2022.

The allocation of funds from this incentive is IDR 80 million for electric cars and IDR 8 million for electric motorbikes. Not only that, buyers of hybrid cars also receive a subsidy of IDR 40 million and an electric motorcycle conversion of IDR 5 million. Even so, this policy only applies to EVs manufactured in Indonesia and is still being finalized.

Jokowi added that public transport will also receive incentives. However, the numbers are certainly different from electric cars, hybrid cars and electric motorcycles.

Jokowi’s pledge to dispense massive funds for electric vehicles has also sparked concern from multiple quarters. This is because the price of electric vehicles is still 30% higher than the price of conventional vehicles.

Coordinating Minister of Economy Airlangga Hartarto hopes that with the incentives the price of electric vehicles will be much more affordable in a press conference at the State Palace on Wednesday 21 December 2022.

According to him the reason to give incentives for electric vehicles this emerged because the price is 30% higher than the price of conventional vehicles. With this incentive, it is hoped that the price of electric vehicles will become more affordable.

He also added that the granting of grants electric vehicle it does not mean providing assistance to the rich because there is a fixed price limit for vehicles. Airlangga also explained that the government has promised to provide subsidies to the public as a form of support for the realization of the goal of 400,000 units of electric cars.
