Jokowi opens voice on RI Deflation for 5 consecutive months

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has opened his voice about the deflationary conditions that have occurred in Indonesia for 5 consecutive months. According to him, deflation can occur because of two things, firstly the decline in prices that occurs because of good supply and distribution of basic materials.

Second, deflation can also occur due to a decrease in purchasing power. He believes that we must first find out which one of those two things is causing the inflation to see if inflation is a warning of danger or a benefit to society.

“First, try to ensure that decontamination is the result of a reduction in commodity prices, because the supply is good, because the distribution is good, because there are no obstacles in transportation. Or because there is a reduction in purchasing power. “, said Jokowi in the capital city of the islands (IKN), East Kalimantan, Sunday (6/10/2024).

However, he stressed that price controls, both anti-inflationary and anti-inflationary, must be well controlled. This is done so that all parties still benefit. On the producer and distributor side, they can still get business profits, on the consumer side they can get affordable prices.

“Whatever the inflation or inflation is called, it is necessary to control both, so that stable prices do not harm producers, whether they are farmers, fishermen, MSMEs, or manufacturers. But also from the consumer’s point of view, prices are not rising,” explained Jokowi.

The number one person in Indonesia said that Indonesia continues to experience inflation of 1.8% annually, meaning that prices in the market are kept at a balanced level. According to him, controlling the price balance is the government’s homework at the moment, and it is not easy to do.

“It is not easy to maintain a balance and we will continue to try,” said Jokowi.

Previously, the Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted that in September 2024 there would again be a deflation of 0.12% per month. In detail, there was a decline in the consumer price index from 106.06 in August 2024 to 105.93 in September 2024.

This is continuous deflation in the last 5 months. BPS also noted that year-on-year inflation was 1.84% and year-to-date national inflation reached 0.74%.
