Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
President Joko Widodo asked not to be associated with the affairs of political parties that are currently preparing to face 2024 presidential election.
He spoke in response to a NasDem statement that said Jokowi had complained to Surya Paloh about his declaration of support for Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate.
“That’s the business of the party, the business of the coalition, the business of the presidential candidates, the cawapres is the business of the party, or a coalition of parties. What’s the business of the president,” Jokowi said in Central Jakarta, Tuesday (31/1) evening.
He also asked for a number of issues not to be associated with the palace. He claimed that the government has more work to do than dealing with the affairs of political parties.
“Don’t often be associated with the palace. Little by little, the palace has a lot of work,” he said.
Previously, the chairman of the NasDem DPP, Sugeng Suparwoto, said that President Jokowi had complained to Surya Paloh about declaring Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate without prior communication.
Sugeng said that this complaint was conveyed by Jokowi when he met Surya Paloh at the Palace a few days ago.
“One of them, yes, with light language. ‘Yes, Mr. Jokowi complained why we declared Anies Baswedan without prior communication’. But that’s all, said Mr. Surya,” said Sugeng in the Political Show program broadcast by CNN Indonesia TV, Monday (30/1 ) night.
