Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s volunteer group (Jokowi) or known as Jokowi Mania (Joman) expressed support for the general chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto to become a presidential candidate (candidate) in the 2024 presidential election.
Secretary General Joman Akhmad Gojali Harahap said his party had held a meeting to consider this. They have decided on a new direction after dropping out of supporting Ganjar Pranowo.
“DPP Joman has decided to support Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate for 2024-2029. This support was given various considerations, Prabowo Subianto has more than enough social capital as a presidential candidate,” Gojali said in Jakarta, Wednesday (15/4).
General chairman Joman Immanuel Ebenezer said Prabowo was a firm figure. Prabowo, he said, is loyal to President Jokowi’s government.
He believes that Prabowo is a person close to Jokowi. According to him, Prabowo will continue various policies of the Jokowi government.
“We agree that in Joman 2024, our democracy will be filled with the big ideas of this nation. Both of us also want to be a brave figure in the future,” said Immanuel.
Previously, Joman had expressed support for the Governor of Central Java who is also a PDIP cadre, Ganjar Pranowo. They formed Ganjar Pranowo Mania to prepare for the 2024 presidential election.
However, this decision was revoked some time later. Immanuel said Joman was disappointed with Ganjar who had no ideas for the Indonesian nation.
For information, Prabowo and Jokowi competed in the last two presidential elections, namely 2014 and 2019. However, during the 2019-2024 administration, Prabowo and the ‘friendly’ Gerindra ranks became part of Jokowi’s coalition.
In fact, Prabowo was asked by Jokowi to become Minister of Defense in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019-2024 period.
