Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Regulation of the level of domestic content (TKDN) has taken its toll in state-owned companies. As a result of not following this rule, a high-ranking State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) official was thrown out of his seat.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) took the action. Luhut also said that Jokowi was furious because of the official’s actions.
“A high-ranking Pertamina official was fired by the president yesterday,” said Luhut at the 2021 BPPT National Meeting, Tuesday (9/3/21).
Luhut revealed that Jokowi was upset that the official could not follow the regulations on the use of TKDN level on projects that were mainly related to Pertamina pipelines.
“Making pipes. Pertamina is carelessly asking for mercy. Still importing pipes even though they can be made in Indonesia. How is that?” asked Luhut.
Whereas the TKDN regulation is one way to prevent Indonesia’s dependence on imported products from being prolonged. If high-ranking SOEs alone cannot follow suit, it is only natural that Jokowi will be furious.
However, Luhut was reluctant to mention the name of the official who was kicked out of the hot seat of the state-owned company. “You just check who replaced it,” he said.
