Jakarta –
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has implemented a ban on the export of cooking oil and its raw materials. The policy is effective from Thursday (28/4/2022) until an undetermined time limit.
The export ban includes, among others, crude palm oil (CPO), RPO, RBD Palm Olein, POME and Used Cooking Oil. When will Jokowi lift the export ban?
What is clear is that Jokowi did not give a definite time regarding the lifting of the export ban. However, he emphasized that the ban would be lifted if the demand for cooking oil was met.
“Once domestic needs have been met, of course I will lift the export ban because I know the country needs taxes, the country needs foreign exchange, the country needs a trade balance surplus, but meeting the people’s basic needs is a more important priority,” said Jokowi when delivering the statement on the ban on oil exports. fried and raw materials, Wednesday (27/4/2022).
Jokowi asked for awareness of the palm oil industry to meet domestic needs. If you look at the production capacity, domestic needs should be easily fulfilled.
“The volume of raw material for cooking oil that we produce and export is much greater than domestic needs. There is still a very large capacity remaining if we are all willing and have the intention to fulfill people’s needs as a priority, domestic needs can easily be met,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, the export ban will apply to bulk cooking oil of Rp. 14,000 per liter.
“This policy ensures that CPO products can be dedicated entirely to the availability of bulk cooking oil and the price is Rp. 14,000 per liter, especially in traditional markets and for the needs of MSEs,” said Airlngga, Wednesday (27/4/2022).
