President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) answered the news that he gave his blessing to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo to run in the 2024 presidential election contestation. Jokowi said he couldn’t stop people.
“I think the term is because it conveyed to me, when I said no, no, that’s not the way it should be,” said Jokowi at the Palace Complex, Friday (12/8/2022). Jokowi answered questions about the issue of Jokowi giving his presidential blessing to Prabowo and Ganjar.

“Yes, go ahead, our democracy must indeed be conveyed like that, it is impossible for the president to have, for example, a minister who came to me to convey it, then I said no, it can’t be done,” said Jokowi.
“Yes, please. If it is interpreted as a blessing, yes, go ahead,” he continued.
Volunteers’ Interpretation of Jokowi’s Gestures
Previously, the Chairman of the Indonesian Volunteer People’s Consultative Council (Musra) Jokowi, Andi Gani Nena Wea, said that President Jokowi had not yet chosen a name to be endorsed in the 2024 presidential election. Andi Gani emphasized that Jokowi was close to all potential candidates.
“I emphasize that the president has not elected anyone, the president is close to anyone,” Andi Gani told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (8/8).
Andi Gani then revealed Jokowi’s closeness to a number of figures. Jokowi is said to give space to all figures.
“For example, with Pak Prabowo, I emphasize that because I have known Pak Jokowi since Solo, I understand his gesture very well. With Pak Ganjar, what is not close enough? With Mbak Puan, she is everywhere with Ms. Puan,” he said.
“All that remains is for the candidates to make maximum use of their closeness to the president. So if, for example, they have chosen Prabowo, I’m sure, I’m sure they haven’t,” he said.
When asked if Prabowo’s name was on the radar of the presidential candidate, Andi Gani spoke about the three figures with the highest electability. Andi Gani said the choice would not be far from the names of the figures circulating in the presidential electability survey.
“Oh, of course, we know the top three, Pak Ganjar, Prabowo and Anies. We don’t even know the results, but it’s certainly not far from there,” he added.
According to Andi Gani, the choice of presidential candidate will not be far from the figures who have appeared in surveys with high electability. In addition, the electability factor in the regions is also a consideration.
“That’s my feeling. To be honest, it’s impossible to jump from rank 9 to number one, right. We’ll see the regional configuration later. It could be that the candidate number 6 in the survey could be number 1 in the area of his birth,” he explained.
