jpnn.com, JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) considered the Covid-19 pandemic to provide extraordinary lessons in national development planning.
Jokowi said everything must adjust to the opportunities there are even though he already has the best planning beforehand.
“What has not changed is the main objective, namely to improve the welfare of the people, to advance the nation. However, the way often has to change because the challenges and opportunities can also change at any time,” he said. Jokowi while giving directions at the inauguration of the 2021 National Development Planning Conference (Musrenbangnas) at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (4/5).
Second, the synergy of the nation’s strength to solve the problems faced, both health problems and economic problems, is needed. A number of efforts such as disciplinary health protocols, 3T (testing, tracing, treatment), and mass vaccination programs require support from all components of the nation.
“It takes activeness from all levels of government from central to regional. Likewise, productivity from small to large industries to produce medical devices and medicines. Support from other countries is also needed,” he explained.
Third, the use of advanced science and technology is increasingly unavoidable. According to Jokowi, when government services, education and retail businesses cannot be offline, we must change quickly using online instruments.
“When we need fast, accurate, integrated data, what we need is digital technology. When we need drugs, vaccines, medical devices, what we need to be fast is we need technology,” he added.
In the face of increasingly fierce world competition, speed, accuracy and efficiency are important foundations for being able to compete. Therefore, Jokowi views planners must really consider the development of science and technology (science and technology).
