Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) canceled attending Tarawih prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, Monday (4/4) night. This was confirmed by the Deputy Chair of the Worship Organizer Istiqlal Mosque Abu Hurairah.
Previously, on Monday afternoon, Abu confirmed Jokowi’s plan to pray Tarawih at Istiqlal. However, he later confirmed that the plan was canceled shortly after the Maghrib prayer.
“Yes, it looks like (Jokowi canceled the Tarawih prayers at Istiqlal),” said Abu through a short message to Mr CNNIndonesia.comMonday (4/4) evening.
It is known, at around 17.30 WIB, a number of members of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) were seen at the VVIP gate of the Istiqlal Mosque. Not long after, the troops who rode the Barracuda left Istiqlal.
Abu admitted that he did not know why Jokowi canceled the Tarawih prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque. He said he had no information about it.
“Well, we don’t understand that business,” said Abu.
CNNIndonesia.com contacted the Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono regarding this matter. However, the person concerned has not responded to the connection via cellphone from CNNIndonesia.com until this news was published.
For information, the Istiqlal Mosque has again held Tarawih prayers since Saturday (2/4). This is Istiqlal’s first time holding regular Tarawih prayers since the Covid-19 pandemic.
