President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) open voice on issues surrounding the extension of the term of office of the president and the president for 3 terms. Jokowi’s stance is firm: Rejecting all proposals for an extension of his position.
“I’ve answered back and forth, what else do you want to answer?” Jokowi said in response to the issue of the three-term president in a meeting with a number of editor-in-chief at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (15/9/2021).
Jokowi respecting democracy because of that he did not forbid the opinions and statements that were milling about the presidential term in public. Jokowi brought up his attitude that did not suppress the hashtag #2019ChangePresident.
“Now this, there are people who propose, I can’t ban it. This is part of democratization. Wong who hashtag #2019ChangePresident I don’t forbid it, this time it’s me forbid people’s opinions and opinions regarding political aspirations. Yes, it’s up to them,” said Jokowi.
“There are those from the grassroots, from the political forces, for example, suggesting it. Leave it alone. The important thing is that I have refused. My attitude is the same as before. How I have to answer again,” he said.
Jokowi then responded to the issue of extending the president’s term of office until 2027. He emphasized that he rejected the proposal.
“My answer remains the same,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi said the issue of the extension of office had a bad impact on him. He stressed that he would always obey the constitution.
“The idea is actually bad for me because it will create an opinion that Jokowi is ambitious, greedy for power, I refuse,” he said.
