Jokowi Calls for ASEAN Unity and Family Spirit during 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo

President Jokowi delivered the implementation The 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo has been running smoothly with good results. Jokowi said Indonesia wanted ASEAN countries to be able to face challenges and play a central role in the region.

For this reason, Jokowi invited the leaders of ASEAN countries to sail together on the pinisi. Jokowi views ASEAN countries as a family.

“Therefore, yesterday I invited the leader to sail together on the pinisi ship so that the atmosphere is relaxed and kinship because indeed ASEAN is one family, the ties are very strong, the unity is very important to sail towards the same goal, making ASEAN epicentrum of growth and a stable and prosperous peaceful area,” said Jokowi, in a press statement in Labuan Bajo, Thursday (11/5/2023).

Jokowi said the important conclusion from the 42nd ASEAN Summit was touching the interests of the people. Jokowi also touched on the protection of migrant workers.

“First, matters that touch the interests of the people are of paramount importance leader, including the protection of migrant workers and victims of human trafficking and I invite ASEAN countries to take firm action against the main perpetrators,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi also stated that Indonesia was ready to communicate with anyone, including the Myanmar Junta. The communication was carried out solely for the benefit of humanity.

“And Indonesia is ready to talk to anyone, including the junta and all stakeholders in Myanmar for the benefit of humanity,” said Jokowi.

“And what’s important for me to emphasize is that engagement not recognitionmaking an approach does not mean giving recognition,” Jokowi continued.
