Jokowi Calls Crisis & Recession Like Fire, JCI Drops More than 1%

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– The Composite Stock Price Index (CSPI) fell 1.24% to 6,062.46 on Monday (16/8/21) out of the 6,100 zone when President Joko Widodo delivered his state speech, ahead of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day tomorrow.

Today’s transaction value is Rp. 4.7 trillion and foreign investors have observed a net purchase of Rp. 174 billion in the regular market.

Foreigners bought shares in PT Bukalapak.com Tbk (BUKA) amounting to Rp 241 billion and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BBRI) Rp 6 billion.

Meanwhile, foreign net sales were carried out in shares of PT Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper Tbk (INKP) which were sold for Rp. 14 billion and PT Adaro Energy Tbk (ADRO) which were sold for Rp. 7 billion.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave a State Speech in the context of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day at the MPR/DPR Building on August 16, 2021.

Wearing the Baduy Traditional Dress, Jokowi at the beginning of his speech underlined the issue of the crisis to the pandemic.

“Crisis, recession and pandemics are like fire. If we can, we can avoid it, but if it keeps happening, we can learn many things,” said Jokowi.

“Fire does burn, but also illuminates at the same time. When under control, it inspires and motivates. It hurts, but it also strengthens,” he added.

Jokowi hopes that this pandemic can illuminate the nation. Especially to be introspective, improve yourself, and strengthen yourself. “In the face of future challenges.”

Jokowi also explained that the recession and crisis that came repeatedly on the way after Indonesia’s independence had also been successfully overcome. “Each exam strengthens the social foundations, political foundations, and economic foundations of the Indonesian nation. Each stage provides learning and at the same time brings improvements in our lives.”
