Bola.com, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi gave several warnings regarding the spread COVID-19 in Indonesia. Jokowi asked regional heads to be aware of the increase in COVID-19 cases after Eid.
Jokowi advised that there is a potential for an increase in positive cases of COVID-19 after the Eid holidays and the 2021 homecoming period. This is because there are around 1.5 million people who are still desperate to go home, even though it has been banned.
“Pascalebaran, be careful, we really have to be vigilant because there is a potential for the number of new cases of COVID-19. Even though, we have issued a ban on going home,” said Jokowi while briefing regional heads throughout Indonesia, as broadcast on Youtube Secretariat. President, Tuesday (18/5/2021).
Jokowi also reminded the ranks of regional heads to be careful of the potential for a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
“Be careful of the second wave, the third wave in our neighboring countries has also started to jump dramatically,” said Jokowi.
The surge in positive cases of COVID-19 has occurred in neighboring Malaysia. Apart from that, a positive case COVID-19 also increased in India, even reaching 400 thousand cases per day.
The former Governor of DKI Jakarta also revealed that there were 15 provinces that had recorded a spike in positive cases of COVID-19.
“Be careful, the provinces in Sumatra. 15 provinces have experienced an increase. This is careful, now we are open,” said Jokowi.
Of the 15 provinces, six of them are from the island of Sumatra. The six regions that experienced a spike in positive cases of COVID-19 are Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi and Bangka Belitung.
In addition, a surge in positive cases COVID-19 also occurred in DKI Jakarta, Maluku, Banten, West Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku. Then, Central Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, and Gorontalo.
