Jokowi asks not to take long to decide on presidential candidates, PDI-P: Megawati has its time

GIACARTA, KOMPAS.com – PDI-P DPP President Eriko Sotarduga responded to the expectations of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) so that political parties do not take too long to determine their respective presidential candidates (candidates).

Eriko thinks it’s reasonable when Jokowi asks like this.

“Yes, it’s natural. As I said, Gerindra and PKB are fine, there’s nothing wrong with it, whoever goes first is fine,” Eriko said when he met at Morissey Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (11 / 06/2022).

Eriko stressed that the nomination of presidential and vice presidential candidates is the right of a party or a combination of political parties.

For the PDI-P, Eriko stated that the President General of the PDI-P (Ketum) Megawati Soekarnoputri had his time when he would decide on the presidential candidate chosen.

“In particular, we at PDI-P believe that Ms. Megawati has her time to determine who will decide. This is her prerogative,” he said.

“So from other friends we are excited to compete. In 2019 we experience that the friction is very high, we do not want that in 2024 (to happen again). Whoever wants to apply first can,” continued Eriko.

Then, Eriko said that it was indeed perfectly fine if other parties encouraged the PDI-P to choose the name of the presidential candidate.

However, he reminded once again that the decision of the presidential candidate is a right of political parties.

“If everyone gives input, it is natural. But if the input becomes a decision, it depends on each party,” he added.

Jokowi previously said that the decision to determine presidential and vice presidential candidates (Capres-Cawapres) in the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres) was entirely in the hands of the political parties (parpol).

However, he hopes political parties don’t take too long to determine who will bring candidates to the elections Presidential elections of 2024 future.

Jokowi said that the authority to choose and lead presidential candidates was in the hands of political parties.

However, political parties must also meet the presidential nomination threshold required by Law No. 7 of 2017 on the general elections.

“Once again, the appointment is a matter of political parties. The determination of coalitions is also made by political parties,” said Jokowi.
