The general chairman (Ketum) of NasDem Surya Paloh revealed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had asked who the cawapres figure was. Anies Baswedan at a meeting at the Palace some time ago. NasDem suspects that Jokowi asked this because a certain figure appeared who seemed to have been elected as Anies’ vice presidential candidate.
“Pak Jokowi asked who Anies’ vice presidential candidate was, because so far the information has been circulating as if Mas Anies already had a vice presidential candidate or as if Pak Surya had approved one of the vice presidential candidates, right? That’s a rumor that’s been circulating so far, right. So confirm that it doesn’t exist yet, (Anies vice president),” said Deputy Head of NasDem Ahmad Ali when contacted, Thursday (20/7/2023).
He was asked whether Jokowi had time to recommend a name for a cawapres figure Anies to Paloh, Ali emphasized that there was no such proposal. According to him, Jokowi’s question to Paloh was because the two of them had a close relationship.
“No, no,” he said.
“If I really understand, then confirm it because Mr. Jokowi and Mr. Surya are two figures who are very difficult to separate, right, have a very strong emotional connection. So if then there are distances, he said, yes, it’s humane between friendly people to feel this “Yes, humane. But far from that they have a very deep relationship. So when the question arises, yes, as friends, right,” he added.
Previously reported, Paloh revealed the contents of his recent meeting with Jokowi at the State Palace, Jakarta. Paloh revealed that Jokowi had asked about the cawapres figure of Anies Baswedan.
“Well, Pak Jokowi also asked, who is this vice president, I said I haven’t think That’s what I know about Pak Anies’ (business), ha-ha-ha…,” said Surya Paloh at the NasDem Tower, Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (18/7).
Paloh said the figure of the cawapres was still in Anies’ hands. He also did not rule out the possibility that there would be a meeting between Jokowi and Anies.
“Yes, I said I don’t understand, maybe sir Anies who knows best, that’s about it,” he said.
“I’m not offering, but probability it could go in that direction (Jokowi meets Anies), and that’s good. It’s possible in that direction, it’s possible in that direction,” he added.
Furthermore, he stressed that the political atmosphere should not be brought to a direction that is too tense. He emphasized that political parties should prioritize the interests of the nation rather than thinking about who is friend or foe.
“Yes, as I said from the beginning, if the atmosphere is carried out in a non-tense manner, this is not a position of opponent, this is a friend, who will benefit? This nation, all of us. We miss thoughts like that,” he said.
